Cipher Office

You are the codebreaker. The messages are coming in.

It’s a quiet office, a desk, a stack of intercepted radio messages and a map of Europe on the wall. Every dispatch is written in code. Crack it, file your report and stick a pin in the map.

How it plays

  • Sixteen intercepts across seven days, from Rotterdam to Marseille.
  • Decode each message by hand with the tools on your desk: a Caesar wheel, a codebook, a frequency count and your own notes.
  • File a report on what you’ve read and see whether your decoding holds up.
  • Every filed report drops a pin on the wall map, and you can follow the story across the continent.

What you’ll learn along the way

  • Caesar cipher: a gentle introduction, and you’ll be shifting letters in minutes.
  • Substitution ciphers: first with hints, then with nothing but your wits.
  • Progressive Caesar: the shift changes with every letter.
  • Vigenère: the cipher that fooled the world for 300 years.
  • Mixed days: all of them together, and nobody tells you which is which.

Each new cipher starts with a short “How it works” note. You can reopen it at any time. After that you’re on your own.

Features

  • One-screen desk sim: no combat, no timers, just you and the puzzle.
  • Progress saves automatically, so you can come back later.
  • Plays in the browser. Best on a desktop with a keyboard and mouse.
